Bill's Blogs: Halfway There

I had a nice thing happen to me last week. I got a call from a buddy who goes all the way back to my college days. He, another friend of mine (also a musician), & I used to hang out together all the time. They prefer that I don't mention their names…

They stayed tight long after I moved to Los Angeles, but about 10 years ago they drifted apart due to very differing political views- one a progressive Democrat, the other a moderate Republican. I felt like they weren't that far apart, but sadly it got to a point where they completely stopped talking to one another.

"He told me when he read the lyrics, he got a positive message of fellowship & acceptance."

One of them called me & it was great to catch up again. Somewhere in the middle of the conversation, he said to me "I need to thank you" & I answered "what for?" He told me that the week before he was taking a trip down memory lane music-wise, & played a variety of my material. One of the songs he listened to from my CD's was titled "Halfway There". He told me when he read the lyrics, he got a positive message of fellowship & acceptance. He then called my other buddy & they renewed their friendship.

This really touched me. I know that the country right now is going through a rough period (with some deep differences) but I hope we listen to each other and continue to try to work toward solutions in the middle. My two friends are a positive example of that...
